Caster Focus: Doomshaper2

Warmachine and Hordes for Beginners

-By: Elliott (PG_E2lio2tr)

A few weeks ago we talked about what a Beast caster is and how they work on table. Some are not as clear as others. Doomshaper2, also known as Doomshaper Rage of Dhunia, is very much and in every way a clear Warbeast caster. The old man of the Trollbloods, Doomshaper became a bit more cranky in his second versions. Today, we are looking at what he brings to the Trollblood army and how he plays. Doomshaper2 takes the normal style of the army and shifts it slightly to the more primal and beastual side of the game. This is evident on every section of his cards.

He will never be a front line caster. If you want that, go look at Madrak2 or Borka1. If Doomshaper is in combat, either something went wrong or you need to finish something off. His stats clearly want him to…

How to “Git Gud” – List Selection Expanded, & Deployment

Strat Cat Scribblings

Carrying on from Part 1 and Part 2, today I’ll briefly touch on list selection considerations relative to scenario, and deploying relative to the scenario with an eye on your end game.

Scenario impact of List Selection

Firstly, why is this even relevant?  Well, you may correctly predict their drop and counter-drop accordingly, but if the list you drop is shite in the scenario in question then you’re probably making it harder on yourself than you need to.

Main considerations:

  • Is it Killbox?
  • How slow is the scenario?
  • How wide is the scenario?

This can be broken down a little further:

  • Is it Killbox?
  • If yes, does my opponent’s likely drop have the tools to capitalise on my ‘caster being further forward than I’d perhaps like?
  • If yes, are there counter-plays available to me?  i.e. Can I make it a risky play that is unlikely to succeed

Journey of a New Player: Vinny Part2

Warmachine and Hordes for Beginners

-By: Vinny (VP18)

The first week of the Journeyman League came and went, and I learned a great deal! My awesome plans for domination on the battlefield turned into a life lesson on how beginner luck goes only so far! It also gave me a great appreciation for the depth of Warmahordes, as I quickly realized how almost every move had a more tactically sound alternative.

ragnor-skysplitter-the-runemaster_andrea-uderzo-14oct15In my first game of the JML, and of MkIII, I played against Tony, who had Rhulic mercenaries, a very shooty list with three light warjacks and one scary heavy. We then set up the terrain which allowed for a mostly open field with a forest on one side and a row of boxes on the other. The dice were rolled for turn one, and a mini-victory allowed me to choose first move. I set the Axer in the middle with Ragnor behind him…

From our friends at PartyFoul…Playing Painted

Party Foul WMH

Recently Malorian made a new years resolution to Play Painted. I personally have been playing painted for years now, but his decision to commit to playing painted inspired me to write this article about the subject.

Warmachine is a game that is strong enough in it’s design and compelling enough in its interactions that it draws in players from competitive meta’s that don’t necessarily have a basis in the painting and hobby aspect of the game. Likewise some people who play the game find themselves with little time to paint with the general pressures of life, and it can be difficult for them to find the motivation to paint their models.

I certainly don’t have any magic solutions to find people the time or motivation to paint their models, but I’m going to try! The benefits and sense of personal accomplishment are well worth the effort!

Asphyxious2 – How, What, Why?!

Strat Cat Scribblings

Asphyxious2, Gaspy2, Lich2, The Lich, whatever you want to call him, appears to be garnering interest again.  Having recently won a local 16-man tournament with him (7/0 in total so far from 7 games) I thought I’d pull together some thoughts on how I built his list the way I did, what to do with said list, and why I think it seems to be working.

The List

Lich Lord Asphyxious – WJ: +28
– Cankerworm – PC: 9
– Stalker – PC: 8
– Stalker – PC: 8
