From our friends at PartyFoul…Playing Painted

Party Foul WMH

Recently Malorian made a new years resolution to Play Painted. I personally have been playing painted for years now, but his decision to commit to playing painted inspired me to write this article about the subject.

Warmachine is a game that is strong enough in it’s design and compelling enough in its interactions that it draws in players from competitive meta’s that don’t necessarily have a basis in the painting and hobby aspect of the game. Likewise some people who play the game find themselves with little time to paint with the general pressures of life, and it can be difficult for them to find the motivation to paint their models.

I certainly don’t have any magic solutions to find people the time or motivation to paint their models, but I’m going to try! The benefits and sense of personal accomplishment are well worth the effort!

Archdomina Makeda: Why do I like her?

I’ve been playing Makeda 1 a lot lately, after bringing her out to practice for champions, and realized I really enjoy playing her. At GenCon I went 3-0 with her in Champions, and went 1-1 in Masters qualifiers. At TempleCon I went 2-1 in Champions, giving me a 6-2 record, granted 5 of those wins are in a very limited format. At any rate, this success with a caster that, on paper, confused me and I figured I’d do a break down of her to help myself and anyone else that might be interested in trying to unlock this strange, strange lady.

Bradigus Thorle the Runecarver

Circle, Circle, Circle…Morvahna is what most people will think about when you say Circle Orboros.  I was going to put my thoughts down on a list for her.  Then I listened to Episode 168 of the Chain Attack podcast.  I thought that Bradigus would be interesting to make a list for since I have not heard of any lists that have popped on the scene yet.  So here it is…Brad

Obviously his builds should all be about the Synergy spell.  With the Fury mechanic this will prove to be pretty powerful but since Brad can only have Wolds it shouldn’t be to over the top.  The Woldwatchers get to cast there Animus for free which it is pretty cool. The Woldwarden and Megalith will spam out Rift primarily or they could use Battering Ram to move enemies away from Brad if he gets into a bind.  The Blackclad Wayfarer will allow for free charges with increased movement as will Lanyssa Ryssyl.  She also has a little more punch on her Ice Bolt Shot and will mix things up with all of the bad terrain that will be placed by using Winter Storm.  The Gallows Grove and shifting Stones are an obvious include to really magnify Brad’s Feat…which is why you are also playing him.  The feat, Earthen Tide will allow you place your battlegroup 5″ towards a table edge.  If you can have a Shifting Stone unit waiting you will have a threat range of 21″.  With the Blackclad or Lanyssa you will max at 23″!!!!  Free charge, 2 initials, 4 Fury and a Synergy Chain of at least +3 you will probably drop most things.  He may not be your primary caster but I think Brad will offer an Alpha Strike/Assassination that will shock people.  Plus playing with rocks is so much fun!
